New England Bound in 8 Days

#8-The Deerfield Fair.

This might sound weird, but one of my favorite smells ever is the smell of the deerfield fair; a mixture of fried dough, hot dogs and fall. Deerfield NH is about 45 minutes north west of where I live and is home to the biggest fair in New Hampshire. It usually happens at the end of September, right when the leaves are turning. We usually make it a family event; drive up in the mid morning and spend the whole day milling around the fair. There is so much to see! The woodcarvers, the barrel races, the historical re-enactments! There is all of the photograph barns, the craft barns, the veggie barns, the fair games, the booths, the food, and the animals! I love the horse pull and the oxen pull and walking up and down the countless barns and seeing the baby cows and the sheep and goats and petting them all. And then when the sun finally sets, everything lights up and there is carnival music and fireworks. The atmosphere is just so intoxicating!

Ugh. I love New England.
